A Message from the Conference Chair

Since its conception and foundation in 2017, the Cultures Conference has focused on a variety of themes related to culture, diversity, languages, multiculturalism, migration, gender, cross-cultural behaviour, intercultural communication, training, education, humanitarian aid, NGOs, religion, organisational diversity, international management and business. The first Cultures Conference took place on 29 September 2018 in the Chania area of Crete, Greece, with a theme of 'Communication across Cultures: Challenges and Prospects in the Global Context' and speakers from the USA (Texas, Pennsylvania, New York and Wisconsin), Brussels, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Russia and Africa. The event was held under the auspices of the Cultural Centre of Chania and the region of Crete-regional unit of Chania, with a local arrangements chair - Mariana Kavroulaki, an archaeologist and food historian.

Founder and organiser of the Cultures Conference is Dr Eirini Daskalaki. She holds a BA in Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), an MA in Intercultural Business Communication from the University of Central Lancashire (UK), and a PhD in Intercultural Communication and Business Strategy in the Hotel Industry from the University of Glasgow (UK). Dr Daskalaki has given presentations to international conferences and delivered workshops in Poland, Cyprus, Greece, Spain, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Morocco and Germany. Her area of expertise concerns the hospitality sector and intercultural communication, her research interests also include a variety of HRM related fields such as: training and development, diversity, and entrepreneurship. Eirini is a co-Editor for Palgrave Macmillan, editing the book 'Case Studies of Immigrant Entrepreneurship: Migrant Entrepreneurs in Contemporary Society', due to be published in 2023. She is often invited to act as a reviewer for internationally recognised book publishers': Palgrave Macmillan, Taylor & Francis, IGI Global and she is part of the editing teams for several international journals. She has extensive experience as Director of Academic Affairs in higher education.
